Introducing....Mrs. Puffington

Allow me to introduce you to Mrs. Puffington. She's a Buff Orpington, one of my favorite breeds. She's considered a dual purpose bird, meat and eggs. Of course, she shan't ever be meat. Mrs. Puffington is quite lady-like. She's rather quiet, very gentle. If chickens could knit, I'm sure she would be an expert at it. She seems to have the disposition for stitching. I usually have to track her down every night and put her up. She seems to get tangled up in the woodpile for some reason, and has a hard time getting home. Just like me! No sense of direction. When she does go up to roost, she's always kinda hanging half way out of the coop, and I have to poke her plumpness into the coop in order to shut the door. She's accustomed to me picking her up, and almost seems to enjoy it. Her goodness is hard to describe.

Her turn on's are: bugs, leftover rice, and nice dirt piles.

Her turn offs are: mites and raccoons.

*Just a random note....if you leave a comment, I'm doing my best to respond to them, so always double check the comments. Thanks!*

  1. We have buff orphingtons. 17 of them. They are great chickens. We have had them since they were chicks and they are tame and docile. They are sort of like little old ladies who knit. I had never thought of it before!

Totally unrelated...I noticed on your twitter sidebar you have twittered with Pioneer Woman and April from Coal Creek Farm. Are you personal friends with them? OH MY GOODNESS, how fun if you are.

  2. Mornin' Mama Hen! They ARE knitters aren't they? LOL

Oh Lord no, they (PW & CCF) don't know me from Adam. I twittered a random tweet to PW this morning at 4:30 and she wrote me back, I just about fell on the floor! LOL April and I have exchanged a couple of emails, she seems awfully nice. Her blog sure is getting busy.

Thanks for being such a faithful commenter, it means so much to me!

Now, I have to go off to me real job, ding dang it!

  3. Awww...she is a sweetheart! I'll keep that breed in mind if we ever get chickens. I am a knitter, so it would be fabulous to have chickens with a knitter's demeanor! :) LOL

  4. Jennifer....You won't be disapponted with Buff Orpingtons. I just can't say enough about them. Hope you get some! Right after the guineas..:-)
