Today's Thoughts

Thanksgiving 2013.

I would be amiss if I didn't take a moment in between the sauteing of celery, and the folding of napkins to stop in and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

May your turkey be tender, and your stuffing moist - may your gravy be smooth, and your pies not weep.
May the family and friends around your table fill those spots in your heart that the cranberry sauce can't reach, no matter how hard it tries, or how hard you try to make it.
May you reflect on the past year - the joys and the suffering, and may you embrace it all with the realization that it is all necessary to form you into the person you are today.

For it is suffering that brings us to a place of Thanksgiving - just as it did the Pilgrims - embrace it.
Give extra love to those family members and friends that have suffered this year.

I'm so very thankful for all of you!
You've no idea how you've carried me this past year as I've been in such an introspective place.
You've given me love, laughter, perspective, and hope.

Thank you.

I am grateful for what I am and have.  My thanksgiving is perpetual.  O how I laugh when I think of my vague indefinite riches.  No run on my bank can drain it, for my wealth is not possession, but enjoyment.
Henry David Thoreau

Now - for the love of God - stay home and don't go shopping today.
: -)

  1. No shopping for me...I hope you have a wonderful day and that you are surrounded by those that you love. Hi to Aaron if he is home too. I am thinking that we need a video of the two and/or three (Glenco) soon! It has been WAYYYYYY TOOOO LONG.

  2. Happy Thanksgiving! You could not FORCE me to shop today. I posted my "thankful" list today on my blog. Nowhere on the list did I offer thanks for anything involving shopping or Black Friday! I did, however, stuff my face with things that I don't normally eat and enjoyed every.single.minute. (I may pay the price later today but for the moment I am enjoying my stuffed, lazy self.) Sure would be nice to have someone else to load the dishwasher and do my pots and pans but I am not complaining. Hope your day is filled with love and laughter!!

  3. Happy Thanksgiving Jayme. Beautiful post. Hope your feast was as good as ours. I'm feeling stuffed like a bird and am finally getting a moment to put up the feet, while hubs puts the kitchen back in order. I will not be participating in the Black Friday madness. I might venture to one of my antique malls just to gaze, reminisce and help get myself in the holiday mood. I am in a "simple" frame of mind on the decorating this year, that yes, "less is more". Hopefully Aaron is home now. You may not be tending to bees or a garden now, but you will be busy none the less. Enjoy him and may you all have happiness and good health in the days yet to come.

  4. Hi Jayme,
I've never commented before but wanted to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving ( : I also wanted to say how much enjoyment, encouragement and blessing I have had (and still have!) reading your blog over the last year and a bit-your honesty, openness and humour is a gift to me and to many others too so a huge thank you and a polite English hug from across the pond ( : With love, Vicky (P.S excuse the over-use of smiley faces-always seem to be a little too free and easy with them...)

  7. Happy Thanksgiving and thank you for posting! Your line, "For it is suffering that brings us to a place of Thanksgiving," really struck a chord for me!

  8. Jayme, I count you among the blessings that I give thanks for every day ... no matter how often or sporadically you update this little blog. I stayed here through chicken diapers, and chicks in your bra, slumber parties in The Squirrel, Aaron's teen years, and everything else that makes up the progression of your life in NW Indiana. Now that I think of it, how ARE the chickens?

  9. I have enjoyed reading your blog all year long, but Thanksgiving was the best the poem was really good should make all of us sit back and reflect on all the things we have to be thankful for.We take so much for granted this time of the year, everyone is hustling to save a dollar for Christmas, it should be about celebrating with family and friends not just gift giving. 12. What a sweet post! NWI is so congested Black Friday we stay homebound. Sewed all day making drapes and mini quilts. Most enjoyable! Hope you and your family enjoyed the holiday!

  13. Hi Jayme -- we Canadians celebrated Thanksgiving Day in the early part of October, but, I always enjoy and share in the 'aroma' of your American Celebration in November too.....I smile through your big Parades, sigh when unexpected snowstorms cancel flights for loved ones to be together and join in the reminder to bow down and be grateful for the big and the small, the joys and the sorrows and know that God is good all the time. You said it so perfectly tonight - you stirred up the Holiday with that "Jayme blend" of worded jewels 'n gems. Happy Thansgiving to your Nest to the South Jayme.
    God Bless,
    Barbra
