This Post Brought to You by the Makers of Benadryl

Camp much?
Fear death by serial killer on site #68?

You need -

You'll sleep right through the campground devilment.

Keep bees?
Stung much?

You need -

Oh, it really won't take the swelling out or anything, but it will knock you out for a few hours, thereby making you completely unaware of your misery.

And this sums up my week - I'm ready to embark on a week-long camping trip with a club hand.
Glenco is helping me in the bathroom -
The BoyChild ties my shoes.

As the one that 'does everything for everybody' it will be a great lesson in humility.

It actually got much worse after I took these pics, and finally split open and started oozing.
I can tell it's getting better now though - I can curl my fingers a wee bit now.

I have hopes of conquering my horse phobia by actually mounting a horse this week.
Now - if I could just get over those danged cotton balls and mustard.

Have a great week!

  1. What bit you?

And Benedryl is great when you really need it. But, don't over do it. What dries up your sinuses also dries up fluids elsewhere. Taking it over and over can cause stiffness as it can dry up the fluids in your joints. :-(

  2. Goodness gracious! What were you doing? Trying to steal honey?

  3. I hope your bee stings will get better soon, I'm sure you'll need both hands if you're going to conquer your fear of horses. :-) Have lots of fun on your camping trip!

  4. OUCH!!! That does look painful. I so hope it goes down soon and you are able to enjoy your trip.

Just think of all the fun you will have eating the honey from your hive and hope with that thought it will make this all worth it.

  7. Ouch! Did the bees turn on you? As bad as the stings are-the itching afterwards is awful too. Hope you are able to enjoy your trip. Good luck with the horse. We'll be waiting to hear how it goes.

  8. Okay, now you got me wondering if I'm crazy to even consider beekeeping.....it is still at least a year away as I have a few other things I'm still learnin'.

  9. I am allergic to bees and stepped on one while playing frisbee barefoot in the park. (There's a movie in there somewhere.) My foot blew up one hundred times it's natural size. Did I mention this was days before I got married? :/ After the pain subsides, the itching commences.

You fear horses? Horses to me are what chickens and bees are to you. Only I can't tuck them in my bra and they don't sting.

I hope you feel better soon and have a wonderful time camping. Don't let any cotton balls swab you.

    Your Friend,
    Deborah

  16. So sorry about the sting. It looks awful! Hope you mend quickly. My son gt stung by one of his bees the week his baby was born. Not a good time!
I take Benadryl to help me sleep. (They call it Sleep Aid). I couldn't live without it!

  18. Benedryl is the magic potion for any allergic reaction but you've gotta be ready to SLEEP - functioning properly is not an option when one is on Benedryl. Sure hope the hand gets better quickly...Glad to find your Blog. I signed on to FOLLOW, so I'll be baaaack!

  19. Hope you are less swollen today, poor thing! It's no fun to have to ask for help. After I had my second back surgery, I had to ask Jerry to accompany me to the bathroom...possibly the lowest point of my life! He was gracious and has never brought it up again. Your marriage and mine are going to last... they are keepers if they will do THAT for us!!!

  22. Jayme,Benedryl is a wonder drug. I had my eye swell up like your hand. I found out later after a trip to the E.R. that I must have wiped the Off mosquito repellent on my eye . I had it on my arms when I was outside so I must have gotten in my eye while sleeping.I hope you feel better,

  23. Oh my gosh, I can't believe that is from a bee sting! I too have appreciated Benedryl this week--I had an allergic reaction and had hives. I have found that if you drink several big gulps of children's Benedryl and then take the pills it works best. Like you I spend some time sleeping, but it is better than tearing my skin open scratching! Hope your swelling goes down soon!

  24. My son and I have both swelled up like that from bee stings. Benadryl does wonders. Well, it gets you through, anyway. We've found the liquid works faster.

  25. I am allergic. So to say that it hurts to look at these photos of your stings is an understatement. Take the meds. Sleep. Sleep is bliss. Especially compared to PAIN. Hope you are better soon!

  28. looks like you need an antibiotic.....it looks like it is turning into some cellulitis.

  29. Miss Jayme-
    You need an Epipen-
a very dramatic injection for allergic reactions you can have on hand.

We have killer bees down here!

    Get better friend,

  30. Yikes, Keep! That looks mighty painful.
I'm with J-Fox though, the word oozing gives me the heebie jeebies!
Have fun on your camping adventure....keep that campsite all swept and tidy!

  31. Yikes ! That looks so painful ! Has the oozing helped the swelling ? Maybe you need to take some steroids?

Hope you're on the road to mobility soon - until then, enjoy the loving help the guys are giving you !

  32. Did you get stung by bees? You poor lady! I'm with you on the Benadryl though...what in the world? I fall asleep within minutes after taking it. How can that be safe for kids????

  33. Banana peels - rub the inside of a banana peel on the affected area...will help with all insect bites. Good luck!

  34. OWWWWWWWWW!!!!! Hope you feel better.... didn't you use your fogger???

  35. Oh, no! Hope the swelling goes down in your hand very, very soon. My son is allergic to bees, so stings are my nightmare. I take Benadryl every single night as per the dr.'s orders. Allergies like crazy around here. Anyway, I sleep like a baby every night.

    Feel better.

  36. I feel your pain girlfriend. I'm getting ready to take a benadryl right now and go to bed. I'll sleep well tonight ;-) One of my 'girls' got mad when I was taking their honey last night. My ankle is twice the size it should be.

    Take care,
    Cindy Bee

  37. Hope the swelling goes away quickly! Maybe you should get an epipen to have handy? And I hope you have a wonderful time riding. Are you going to get some riding lessons before you set out on a trail... how to sit in the saddle... how to place and keep your feet in the stirrups... how much weight to place on your legs, how to rein, etc? Hope so. You will have a much better time and so will the horse. Giddy up!

  38. Oh my word Jayme. You've convinced me that bee keeping is not for me. Thank you very much.I hope you are much improved now.

  39. My daughter is allergic to bee sting. A bee sting for her means a trip to the emergency room. We always keep an EpiPen on hand. Multiple stings can be deadly.

    ReplyDelete
  40. well, that's unfortunate.

My dad is allergic to bees. He got stung on the face once, and he looked like Boris Karloff

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh no! So sorry that you're all swollen. Hope it goes away soon!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yikes, hope you're feelin' well (and brave) for your trip. Have you taken any prednisone? I'm a Benadryl fan too for all the same reasons but even that couldn't help when I had an unfortunate "episode." In prepping for a big meet n greet party for the new Kindergarteners, I sweated like a pig, pulled poison ivy and picked up piles of old boards. full.of.hornets. I was the poster child for don'ts. And scaring young children. Did I mention my FACE became swollen? Doc said the heat had all my pores wide open (another scary image) and so the poison ivy joined the hornets in becoming systemic. It was a memorable party to say the least! But truly, the urgent care Doc hooked me up and I recovered fast. Best wishes to you my far away friend.
Take the Benadryl n relax. Horses sense fear. ;-P
    (((hugs)))
