Meet My New Workout Partner.....

His name is Scott. He is never late. Always ready and waiting.

I bought this awesome mower on my trip to Shipshewana, Indiana last month. The same place I bought the 75lbs of flour! (Which I'm burning through by the way).

I'd been wanting a mower like this for some time. I have about an acre of grass, so it always seemed preposterous to mow it like this, but you know me.....and if you don't, you will. I'm cutting what I consider 'my yard', and Glenco cuts the back mess with the lawn tractor.

I take it in sections at a time. It's great exercise. There is something almost spiritual about cutting grass like this. It's so methodical. It's so 'quiet' compared to the roaring mowers around us. I'm deeply satisfied knowing I'm doing something that is good for me, good for the grass, and good for the environment. It's a win win. It's also cheap, which I really love! No gas baby!

Things I love about it:

The aforementioned. The ease of operation. It's light. It does a really great job at cutting. It looks like it 'belongs' here. So old timey.

Things I don't like so much:

Notice how the wheels are set out a bit from the blade. I'm sure they had to make it like this, but if you aren't careful, you'll have little strips of long grass that you miss, if you try to follow your wheel tracks.

Our property is VERY uneven. Makes it a bit of a challenge.

All in all, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. It's a 20" Scotts Reel Mower. I'm pretty sure I paid just over $100. I was a bit too excited to notice the exact amount. Sorry. Gosh, all I need now is a SmartCar and I'll be so green.

  1. I love it! A couple of years ago I wanted one of those and couldn't find one. I'll have to look around again...I sure could use a good exercise buddy!

  2. Talk about your lunch memories, I sure have memories of this type of lawn mower from long ago when I was a youngin. I am sure I had to take a turn being the only girl with 4 brothers. I also remember that my job was doing the edging with a scissor type tool that was used to cut the grass edge all along the way, none of these electric types of today.
Oh the memories of a old mower, we were so green back then, it's all making a come back. Have fun with your mowing/exercising buddy.

  3. Jennifer....I found this one at an old Amish hardware store, but I've also seen them on line, like Amazon.com, where I believe the shipping might be free! You'll love it!

Bug...I remember my mom using one all the time. It must have been dull, cause she would go back and forth on the same spot three times, and then walk forward, then back and forth. I do it sometimes just to make me smile and think of her. :-)

  4. Awesome. But please don't get a smart car. Someone hits you and your flat like a pancake!

Jennifer, you've no idea how close I came to buying a smart car. They are so cute! I have a little vintage looking scooter, so that will have to suffice.

    KentuckyFarmGirl....that is my plan! I just mow a section a day. :-)
