Thank you so much for all the get well wishes yesterday.
It took all day for my stomach to settle down - and it wasn't too much birthday celebrating - it was just 'something'. My stomach has been ailin' me on and off for a while. Seems I can't have dairy products at the moment.
I decided to mix things up a little bit today and do a video.
I found myself dressed, with makeup on, and my chores done at 8am, so I thought I'd play a bit.
It's a whole new level of vulnerable....lord have mercy.
I had to put on extra deodorant!
Here's a photo of my German landlady, Anna Albertson - it goes along with the video. Please note how similar my hair looks today, as it did in 1966! When I think of what my mom went through every morning with the lot of us - she was a saint for sure.
I do hope you'll give the German Lemon Poundcake (click on 'german lemon poundcake' for recipe) a whirl - it's not too sweet, and it's really not THAT lemony - but oh, the memories it brings back for me.
*has anyone tried my honey cookie recipe? If so, can you please let me know how it turned out? I had a reader recently contact me regarding them, and I wanted to find out how they turned out for you...

Good morning! You are hysterical! I loved the walk down memory lane with you. It sounds like a great childhood.
ReplyDeleteWill definitely try the poundcake!
OMG. Cracking me UP! Yes, you do have a great speaking voice, LOL!!! And I love your hair, gerfrend.
ReplyDeleteLOVE. YOUR. HAIR.
ReplyDeleteAnd the poundcake sounds fabulous. Not as fabulous as your speaking voice, which goes hand in hand with your personality! You should do a video blog more often!!!
Well your deodorant paid off, you did great! I loved seeing you talk about your wonderful memories! Isn't it amazing how smells can do that to us? Did you post the recipe somewhere. I love anything lemon!
ReplyDeleteMegan
You are by far, my new favorite person!
ReplyDeleteHolly, of I Wish I Were a Walton, introduced me
to you. And now I squeal with delight if you have posted, gather the family together, pop some corn, and I read your blog. We all love you!!! My husband thinks you're charming. You have such a gift of expression mixed with sensibility, winsomeness, spunk, and good will. You have made our little worlds brighter. It's interesting how you gravitate to blogs that reflect who you are. I also am a Cranford devotee. And it seems once you find you have a few things in common, wham-o! 25 other shared similarities spill forth. A kindred spirit is born. I don't have a blog, so I never comment, but I thought, I can't let another moment go by without telling Jayme how much I love her. Coop it going!!
Sincerely, Lynda
What a pleasant surprise this morning. Great video~!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your walk down memory lane.. Lemon pound cake.. sounds yummy..Anything made with lemon is so good..
Just to help you with saving money.. When I buy dish soap like Dawn or what ever you buy I delute it with water.. I have a small container with a pumper on it..I fill it 1/2 way with water and 1/2 way with the soap.. It still works wonderfully to get your dishes cleaned and gives you lots of bubbles. It's another way you can get a product to last longer..
Have a tiggeriffic day~! ta ta for now from Iowa..annieptigger@aol.com
Oh My Gosh...LOVE IT...LOVE YOU...You need a Coop Keeper Talk Show! Deed you do- xxoo Diana
ReplyDeleteOMG, you have a totally different voice than I would have thought!..You crack me up!!!!...
ReplyDeleteAnd I will for sure try that poundcake, I love lemon anything.
Okay...so you know, don't you, that NOW you have to do at least one video a week! That was so awesome to sit in your kitchen with you, Jayme, and have you share your childhood memories with us. I will try the German Lemon Poundcake one day soon.
ReplyDeleteKnow what stood out in the video to me? Your precious mother...ironing your clothes each morning so you could go out in the cold winter weather with warm clothes on...and the socks warming in the oven brought tears to my eyes. What a sweetheart of a lady she was...wish I could have known her.
Love your new hair do!

ReplyDeletewell Miss Jayme I have heard your speaking voice many times but seeing it animated was even better. I will make the German Lemon Pound Cake.
ReplyDeleteOh the HONEY COOKIES are just devine I have made them maybe 5 or 6 times and always turn out so good. One thing I did a bit diffrent is to roll them in Sugar in the Raw love the texture and taste it gives them.
Thats all from here from snowy Delaware if one more snow plow comes past and plows us in I am going to be up in a tree shooting at things!!!!! I am so over this mess. We shoveled and shoveled and the plow kept plowing us back in 7 times yesterday. I can't take it anymore. nancy settel
I can just see all of you in that little kitchen, puking and running around and shiny oatmeal. It does sound memorable! I am loving your new haircut and you do look even younger. I'm thinking I need to go to the groomer..I mean hairdresser. My childhood kitchen looked just like this Jayme and never once did Mom say it wasn't big enough. Glad you are all better, I knew you hadn't been imbibing..was just a kiddin' you know how us hillbillies are!
ReplyDeleteI think you're awesome.... especially now that I've heard you speak. Too funny. Well done, well done. Extra deoderant and four mugs of tea will do it everytime.
ReplyDeleteI love the tiled walls and curtians in your childhood kitchen.
That was so much fun! I had a lady that became my garandmother as well. She was very special to me. There was also an elderly lady who came to visit us every couple of months. She and her husband bought a little cabin on the lake two houses down from my house. I always thought she was 100 years old. She would find treasures in yard sales at her home that was several hours from ours and bring them to me. Fun stuff like pocket books and tiny dolls. She wore plain dress with fancy jewelry even at the lake. She had been raised by a farmer and could spit a country mile and she chewed tobacco. She told me to never trust a man who couldn't spit. She spent a whole weekend making my brothers chew obscene amounts of bubble gum and making them practice their spitting abilities. I think I miss her now that you mentioned it. I don't recall her baking anything, but I'm sure she did.
ReplyDeleteOn my financial update I traded a Mom I babysit for two haircuts for on day of babysitting. She is a hair-stylist so it worked out great. My son and I both got a hair cut. Other news was not as exciting though, so I will spare you the details, although if you're dying to know you can read the blog.
Did you get your internet turned back on? I am a bit suspicious...
Joy
You look GORGEOUS! And the voice - midwestern NICE as my Minnesota mom calls it! (Tho I was expecting fake German accent lady.) My kids sat on my lap as I watched and we all loved your "show!" RFDTV next? What a treasure Mrs. A was! We make "opameal" with oats, applesauce n brown sugar every morning. And Sarah nearly vomits before school. every. day. When I'm feeling generous I put their clothes in the dryer in the am. But I do not iron! ('Cept for church etc). Loved hearing about your special childhood and sweet home. Truly INSPIRING!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Leslie
You're so cute!! I usually just stalk you and rarely make comments. (I have 6 kiddos and it's all I can do to catch up on my fav. blogs!) But I love everyone of your posts. This is great...I hope many others will copy you and do a video. ALSO, I homeschool my kids and they go to an enrichment school one day a week and my daughter throws up EVERY SINGLE Friday before school!! She loves school and isn't trying to get out of it. Never heard of anyone else doing that. One more thing, your hair looks great! ~ jamie b
ReplyDeleteI loved having a video to listen to today! How creative of you.
ReplyDelete1. Your new hair do looks very cute. Very edgy. I like it.
2. Your mom was a rock star.
3. Your kitchen looks so cozy and warm and inviting!
Have a great week, Jayme. Thanks for the memory sharing.
I love those stories! My husband's family are great story tellers and you rate right up there with them. Glad to know you are feeling better. I will print out the recipe for a time that I have company to share it. Have not been doing any baking lately, hubs does not eat much of it and I would eat all of it. I have to wait for company or grand children to visit. Have a great weekend. Friday could not come soon enough for me this week!
ReplyDeleteI love your voice! You have the cutest little twang.
ReplyDeleteJayme, I loved the video! It was a great surprise and I really enjoyed the stories about your Mom and Anna. Your hair looks fabulous by the way!

Being a new reader it took awhile to get all caught up with you. And it was worth the effort because your writing is truly enjoyable and entertaining. The video was a great way to get to know you better. Aren't we fortunate to have great childhood memories? Will try the cake also. Thank you. Peggy
ReplyDeleteMe thinks I remember Mrs. Albertson!
ReplyDeleteLove the hair, Dahhhhhling!
Happy belated birthday! D'oh!
ReplyDeleteHi Jayme, I have been following your blog, and just realized that I was one of your neighbors that lived across the alley from you on the eastside. My house number was 9722 Ave J. My maiden name was Sansone. Actually I grew up more with your sister Cindy. We had many good times together. I just love your blog and enjoy reading it all the time. Listening to you really brought back memories from my childhood. Thanks! Maryann Sansone Durham
ReplyDeleteI just called Oprah....I am thinking you need your own talk show. She said she'd be in touch. Or did she say that I'm "touched", I don't know. But anyways, as always, you made my day!!!

ReplyDeleteAwww...this makes me miss you more! I'm going to try the Lemon Pound Cake. My AZ kids bought a house. I got to go see it and it's awesome! I'm coming home tomorrow. The weather here is perfect and I want to live in their pool house...oh wait, they don't have a pool house, but I could be their maid for a couple more months and be just fine!
ReplyDeleteWe have work to do at home though..so I'll be back soon..and I'll call. Save me a few days, k?
xxoo
p.s. your hair is beautiful...so are your eyes! And to clarify things for your comment followers, I'm a very happily married Christian woman. The end.
Jamye,
ReplyDeleteThe video was a terrific way to change things up (I just may have to follow your lead on mine blog). It's so fun to see real people rather than pictures. I feel like your a friend, and you sound exactly as I thought. Your voice fits you. When I saw your haircut I said I had to get mine cut like that. So cute.
Love lemon pound cake so I will try your recipe. So sorry to read you were sick. I hope you are on the mend and there are no lingering affects.
Jayme, you're such a treasure! Your writing is so much fun and you have charisma in front of a camera too! Now you know we can't stop with just ONE video! I'm thinking once a week? Yes??
ReplyDelete: )
I will definitely try your lemon pound cake recipe. My husband loves ANYTHING lemon and his birthday is next month. Perfect timing with the recipe!
You were born to be in front of the camera. I think you should have your own show.
ReplyDeleteI really was thinking that I love your cute haircut and then you told the story about it and I laughed. You are so funny. Super talented, you are.
Thanks for making me laugh today!
Love, love, love, love, love your hair!
ReplyDeleteHearing your awesome speaking voice makes me miss you even more, Jaymes. I can see these videos are going to be a big hit. Do you take requests? Frog, Frog - opera version at your soonest convenience, please.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories. You are so sweet and your video was very cool. I will try the recipe ;-)
ReplyDeleteI just found you through "Homestead Revival" and am so excited. You have such great ideas, humor and spirit. I too am a farm girl. Thanx for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt was really fun to see you animated, hear your sweet Midwest accent, and hang out with you in your cozy kitchen. Keep vlogging!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, what a nice surprise! But how can you look so much younger in that video that in pics???!!! The hair perhaps? Less stress from no impending garden walk? Whatever, you do! You look wonderful and I love your sense of humor and your laugh. Thank you for sharing. (and the hillbilly comment? I from CT and consider myself a hillbilly! lol)
ReplyDeleteLike. Like. LIKE!
ReplyDeleteJayme....I love it!!!! It is funny ,because me and Scribe were talking about doing a video of Our reality show reviews on a biweekly basis......I loved hearing your memories
ReplyDeleteAwww Jayme, See, I knew I'd like you when I met you in person! And video is sort of like getting to meet you in person, but I would have to post a video of myself and friend... that just isn't going to happen any time soon, cause I just don't look as great as you do on the computer screen! I'm loving your haircut by the way. And the memories... so good!! Thanks for sharing your story.
ReplyDeleteYour new haircut is fantastic! Love it! So nice to get to see you on film--you are just as sassy as I imagined you to be!
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I start watching your video and think to myself how cute your hair is!!! and then you compare it to the play dough event and I'm once again rolling on the ground with laughter!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're beautiful!!! Stop it right now!!! And may I say how shiny your lips were??? What type of lip gloss is that anyway?? Oh, and the glasses...D-vine!!!
Loved hearing your voice and listening to your memories! I too, grew up in a tiny house and while my mom didn't iron (ususally) before school, she did iron a lot. My dad was a military man and she was always ironing uniforms and undershirts, but my favorite were the pillowcases!! Fresh from the line, steamed to perfection and placed over my pillow. Nothing but sweet dreams for me!!
Hope you do another vidio soon...Loved it!!!!
Hope you're feeling better. I've got it now!!! and my baby boy. Good excuse for a nap I say!!!
Just saw the comment from Lynda...now you must know why she's so dear! Popping corn and all!!!
Take care!
Your hair is so cute! I'm feeling the urge to do something with my hair. You aren't helping. Also? Your blog isn't good for my healthy eating. Of course neither was the seafood mac and cheese I made for Jim's birthday dinner...
