Headin' for the Hills

This morning, as soon as I'm done with my coffee, and check my suitcase one more time, give a few treats to the chickens and kiss the ducks....

I'm headin' for the hills.
Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia.

I'll be visiting the remnants of my father's siblings and some cousins I've not seen in a coon's age.

What I'd planned on telling you was that I was on a relief effort to Nashville to help the poor country stars devastated by the flooding.

I was going to say that I was going to spend the week washing, setting, and teasing all of Dolly Parton's flood damaged wigs.

Why I find that so amusing, I haven't a clue.

I'm not dissin' Dolly. I have some serious Parton love.
I grew up listening to her, Conway Twitty, Roy Clark, etc.
I know almost all of the words to all the classic country music.
Hee Haw was one of my favorite shows as a child.
And I wonder why I was a social outcast. : <>

I can't tell you how many times I've told Glen over and over how to take care of Phyllis (new banty hen) and her babies.
I feel like a new mom leaving for the first time -
'now call me if anything seems irregular' - 'don't forget to check her water and food a few times' - 'keep the cats away from her' - 'I'll call fourteen times a day to check on things'.
It's just me, Aaron and my sister Cindy heading South. I've got Aaron convinced that our family doesn't have running water yet. "I'm really not sure if they have e-lek-tricity or not Aaron".

For all of you friends that laugh at me and through tears say 'Jayme - you are going to end up in Minnesota - (my horrid sense of direction, inability to read maps, etc) laugh all you'd like - I bought a GPS baby.

Tennessee, here I come.
I cannot promise you that I won't come home with more critters.

Thanks for all of your tips and suggestions about the irregular heartbeats.
They are PVC's. I suppose until you experience them, you can't imagine how frightening they are. I hear Heaven is a fabulous place, but for some reason - I don't feel in a hurry to get there.
I started taking magnesium, and it's cleared them right up.

  1. Have a wonderful time. As long as no cars catch fire, things should be good. It can't get any worse than that. : )

I love visiting with older relatives that I don't see often. They're full of history and once their gone, so are their stories.

Dolly Parton wears wigs? : /
My innocence just headed out the door!

Safe travels! (to you, not my innocence)

  7. How long will you be gone. I will miss your blog posts but happy you get to get away. You are going to have so much fun and how nice for your Sissy and Aaron to be going with you. I love Georgia! My Sissy lives there. When I visited her last month we went to the wonderful Biltmore Manson. North Carolina is BEAUTIFUL.

Happy and safe traveling to you.

    Hugs, Dogwood

  8. Magnesium? Really? I wonder why the cardiologist never suggested that to me? I hope you have a wonderful trip and that Aaron isn't too freaked out about no electricity and that he doesn't mind using an outhouse...

  9. Have a wonderful time Jayme! I love Tennessee, it's one of my favorite spots - my husband worked there many years ago, and I learned to love it!

I would love to wash and tease Dolly's wigs - she is one of my favorites!! I too love old classic country music - I was a die hard Hee Haw fan! I still have a huge playlist of Country music.

Don't get lost, and take tons of pictures - I can't wait to see what you come home with! Make memories!

  11. Have a great time in this beautiful state of TN. You should be treated very well while you are here. Tennesseeans are very friendly and most of us do wear our shoes.

  15. Just a warning:
Do NOT listen to everything that GPS tells you. Bring a map and do a mapquest!!
More people have gotten themselves in horrible predicaments because they depended on the 'bitch in a box' more than their own common sense.

I also grw up on Hee Haw and still have an 8 track player !

  17. Wish I could come carry luggage and go along! Sounds like a wonderful trip. Have a great time.

BTW - take the magnesium at night and it will also help you sleep better. Believe me, I know from experience. Hot flashes, etc. can be a real sleep disrupter!

  18. Jayme, Sounds as if to me, you and me had a very similar up bringin.
In addition to Hee Haw and all that you mentioned...my Dad loved Tom T. Hall. One of his favorite albums was "Old dogs and children and watermellon wine." On that album was a song that started out with a sound like a beer bottle being popped...and the song started "Pop a top, again, it's time for one more round...another round my friend..." My sibs and I still do that song. My Dad acts as if he doesn't even know what we are doing. :-)
I love the Smokies...have some pics of those beautiful blue mountains, myself.
Don't forget to HONK in the tunnels!
    hugs, Cheryl

  23. Well, I've heard that Tennessee chickens are the best, but I'm thinking it's time to move on up to turkeys. You need a turkey, Jaymes. Or two.
Have a great time! Come back in one piece.

  26. "HEY GRANDPA...WHAT's FOR SUPPER?" You gotta have watched Hee Haw to get that! And does anyone say "supper" anymore, besides my parents? They have breakfast, dinner, and supper.

If you get anywhere near Jonesborough, TN check it out. My husband and I found it and stayed there on our way to S.C. last month and it was a quaint town.

    Cindy

PS. I posted a photo challenge for you on my blog. If you have time when you get back, check it out.
