This and That

Friday Morning.
Already.
Is it just me, or is time flying?
I want to thank you, yet again, for your kindness towards me this past week.
Helen has left a hole that no other critter can fill.

I also want to thank you for sticking around my blog, and reading, while there hasn't been much to read about! I'm in a really good place right now with the yard work, and should be back to posting much more often after this weekend.
I want to share my garden preparations with you. I have high hopes of a beautiful, country garden, brimming with sunflowers, zinnias, and assorted farmgirl flowers.
Makes me weak in the knees just thinking about it.

The news today is that Aaron has started his own blog!
He's been so encouraged by your comments.
If you get a chance, pop over to Pixel Perfect and see what he's up to.
He would love to hear from you, and I do mean love it.
I think this will be a great creative outlet for him, as well as a learning experience.
I have to keep my paws off of it though.
I never realized what a control freak I was. (yes I did)
I'm all up in his blog saying 'oh, post that other picture, it's better' and 'now, make sure you use the correct punctuation, and I really think it's supposed to be Marmie and me, not Marmie and I". God forbid, I'd squelch his creativity and spark, so I'm hands off. I nearly cried at what he wrote today, I love reading his perspective of being here, and being homeschooled.

My plans for today, in the midst of teaching Aaron the Coriolis effect, global wind patterns, and diacritical marks, is to make homemade hamburger buns, sloppy joes, and a batch of Honey Cookies to take to Bee Class tomorrow.

I'll be in the presence of about 400,000 bees tomorrow.
What are the chances of being stung?

I'm also planning on filling the house with lilacs today.
I want a bouquet in every room.

This afternoon I'm getting a haircut.
A hair CUT.
Not a trim.
A 'style'.
I'm as afraid of that as I am the bees, maybe even more so.

It's a gorgeous day here, I hope it is where you are too.
I'm going to take the time to savor it, I hope you do too!

  1. Great news about Aaron's blog. Will go visit it.

Sloppy Joes and homemade potato salad were on our menu last night.

Haircut? I just keep using the 'shove it under the baseball hat' method.

  2. Jayme,
My lilacs are in bloom, too! I hope they don't get too beat up by the rain today.

  4. Jayme,

Can't wait to see your garden! I will be posting mine as soon as it's all in its glory. It's great that Aaron started his own blog. I will certainly stop by and comment. I am doing the same as you today - filling my home with one of my favorites - lilacs. I have purple and white and the fragrance is divine. I wish they weren't so short lived.
Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

  6. So excited to read Aaron's blog...whoopie, two favorites to read daily. If he has pictures of chickens too I will be in coop heaven...

  7. My lilacs are on the verge of bloom...perhaps next week sometime. And, like you, I plan on filling every room with the incredible fragrance!
Again...my condolences about Helen. Our critters sure do manage to capture our hearts, eh?
No...it's not just you. Time IS flying. And the older I get the faster it flies.

  8. Oh a fellow lilac lover. I posted a couple days ago about mine. Hope you are doing better. Isn't it amazing how we get attached to our chickens.

  9. Hi,
I've been admiring your blog and thought it time I leave a comment. Your thoughts and images are always inspiring. Thanks for sharing. I'm so sorry about Helen. I too have nursed dear hens only to be saddened by their passing. ... Also took a bee course and am preparing for a neighbor bee keeper to start us with one of his hives. As for the hair cut - I could have related in the past, but due to auto immune issues am balding and decided to choose "plastic hair" (a wig). It beats my old baseball cap and is often easier w/farm life n kids, but now I'd choose the hair cut! Good luck. I'll check back here often.
    hugs,
    Leslie

  10. Oh Jayme...so much to comment on after visiting. I LOVE the first picture...one of Aarons??? Those chairs look gorgeous under that tree? Is that in your very own yard??? woot!
I'm glad Aaron is getting an outlet to write. It will be a great school exercise for creativity, grammar, expression of thoughts, computer skills, photograpy, writing skills, ya know? All of that can count on credits for school transcripts! Schooling at its best! woot!
I'll pop over there to check it out! :-)
Oh how fun to hear about your cooking, planting...bouquets...(my hubby can't take the lilac inside)..too strong for his allergies... :-(
Hope the healing continues over Helen. hugs...
wow, can't wait to see your new "do". And don't you also have a hat you did with a bee skep or hive on it? Cute to wear to a beekeeping class! Bet you could sell those to all the girls in that class if you had the time to stitch them..Maybe take special orders for specific colored hats, and get GOOD money for them! woot!
Have fun and looking forward to your next post! Thanks for inspiring us! HUGS>

  15. Talk about "livin the life", you're yard is beautful and you have flowers! We have to coach ours until at least June to peek out of the ground. Location, location as they say!

  20. Jayme, you are one special lady! If that first picture of those beautiful chairs sitting under that beautiful tree is in your yard, I'll be right up to visit...give me...ohhh say about 12 hours! :) Seriously, that is one stunning picture!

I'm headed over to check out Aaron's blog! Sounds great!

Excited to see your new hairstyle!

Enjoy that beekeeping class. Seriously...if you lived here close my husband would be happy to give you a class. He was a great beekeeper before we moved out here. It doesn't look like we are going to get back to that until next year now.

Looking forward to more posts soon!

  22. Can't wait to see your new style! Your spring blooms are so pretty. None here yet, but the trees have buds and it should be soon.
Are you loving the bees? Sounds like so much fun! I'm once again amazed at all you have going....gardening, cooking up wonderfulness, bees. You're such a go getter, Jayme!

  23. I am so glad your are getting your gardening done. There are not Lilacs here yet. Had frost twice this week. I did work on one garden bed but I like to work in warmer weather. Hubs put the post in the ground today to fence a an area at one end of the chicken coop. We just have to many fox and hawks to be completely free range but I am still hoping that we can be somewhat free range at some point. Going to check out Aaron's blog next!

  24. I will definitely go over to Aaron's blog.

Love the lilac bush against the white picket fence. We have two lilac bushes and I am going to make a bouquet for the kitchen tomorrow.

Yes, I agree time is just "totally" flying by.

    Enjoy each minute.

  25. The lilacs are beautiful!
We are still a little ways from getting those beautiful fragrant blossoms :)

I will definitely check out Aaron's blog!

Hope you are well ~ I am writing to you during a whirlwind trip to Connecticut and New York City accompanying my Mom who is a theatre and restaurant critic.
I am pretty much like the chauffeur in Driving Miss Daisy :)

Fun times and nice to get away from New Hampshire for a bit...even thought I have lots of gardening to do myself...

  26. oh Jayme checked out Aarons blog and he has your sense of style and writing. What a kid!! Our lilacs have been blooming for a few weeks and to me there is nothing else like the first lilacs of the year. Oh by the way did you know you can make a bunch of sloppy joes and can them in pressure cooker? You may need that with all you have going on just open a jar of them and plop them into a pan at the end of a very busy exhausting gardening day.I am finding I need more and more of my "fast food" here lately trying to get it all done. nancy settel sheepishgrin92@yahoo.com

  28. Hello, I just found your lovely blog through The Blue Ridge Gal. I'm also a coop keeper and we're practically neighbors...I live in Ohio. We had to put one of our hens to sleep late last fall. She was never really right, and she was getting worse all the time and I just couldn't stand seeing her suffer anymore, so my DH took care of it for me while I cried in the house. So I completely understand what you've gone through with Helen.

  29. I just found your blog, Hayme. Brenda at Cozy Little House told me about you. I'm so sorry for the loss of your Helen. I've been contemplating chicken keeping lately, but have decided that my neighbors wouldn't go for it. Bees, now--that's another matter. They might not mind bees so much.
    Love your blog, Jayme.

  30. Ok...the picture of the tree and chairs looks so inviting! I could just sit there for hours reading and drinking some sweet tea! Your lilacs are amazing! I love the scent of lilacs...they so remind me of time spent in the garden with my grandma. I checked out Aaron's new blog and I could learn a few things from him! Enjoy your bee class!

  31. Hey Jayme~~~~~~~ I'm pure jealous about your Bee class!! They are having a 3 day class here in June that I'm considering but then I think "oh, it's just another strap to tie me down". We'll see! XOXO
