Dreams and Bloopers

My video skills have gone from bad to worse y'all.

A little blooper for your enjoyment...

Busier than a one armed wallpaper hanger this week - but it's all good - all so good.
Stay tuned for more adventures, and a real video on getting the honey out of the frames and into the jars.

The girls have been super busy too!

I do want to say this before I sign out today -

Do you know that in May of this year, it will be 23 years that I moved to the country from the city of Chicago?

Do you know the first week I moved here I went to the library and checked out a stack of books on:

Gardening
Chickens
Goats
Beekeeping
Homesteading

I enjoyed my very own honey in my tea this morning.
It only took me 23 years.
My time finally came.
What a sweet moment that was.
It was symbolic to me of never giving up on your dreams.
Never. Ever.
Fairytales do come true - they can happen to you.

You can have everything - maybe just not all at one time.

Now....all I needs me is a goat and me dreams are fulfilled.
I just keep having a feeling it would be more of a nightmare....

  1. Love it!!! You crack me up!! But where is the real video???
I say it's time for a goat! You've been successful in your other "farm" ventures, so I'm sure goats will be the same! Soon you'll have goat milking vodeos for us!

  8. Ah, this post warms me old heart Jayme. About 10 years ago my husband and I made a written list of our goals for the next ten years. Don't know where that list is now, however, I remember one of the goals was "Obtain goat." Well, we live out in the country now (2 years this summer), but still no goat...we could have a goat now, just not sure though...maybe it would be a nightmare!!

  10. I truly wish that you would have kept going with that video. I'll be checking back tomorrow. By the way, I had the priveledge of owning a goat for a week last spring. Jethro's mom died and I became his mom. He was the biggest baby and I loved him. It was extremely hard for me to give him up to the local animal auction but I kept thinking of him getting bigger and eating all my vegies and also stinking. In one week I could smell him when I opened the back door.

  23. Oh my God Jayme, you are so funny. You brighten up an otherwise dreary day every time!

  24. OMG, Jayme! Full of joy!! That video is somethin', I'll say!! Get a goat--female--have to get two at least cause they get lonely. The females don't smell and weathers don't either. I loved my goats--way too smart!!!!!! You can walk them on a leash. They are gentle and lovely animals! Our problem is that they would get out and romp around when I was riding my horse and I was afraid they would get in the road and cause an accident. So we gave them to another farm to eat weeds. Did I mention that you are hysterical?? Love your blog!! xo

  29. Just make sure you get a kid and bottle feed it and handle it... teach it to left you groom it, clean its hoofs, walk it, teach it to stand and stay so later you can milk it, play, have fun... do those things when it is a kid and growing up and you can end up with a goat that is a pleasure to own. A nightmare would be getting a kid raised on its mother, that had not been handled. Congratulation on becoming a beekeeper!

I so hope you get a goat, just because I can imagine the shenanigans and stories that will result.
p.s. I want some of your gorgeous eggs. Preferably made into French toast batter and served up hot in a hotel room. With homemade syrup.

We kept bees for several years-till I became allergic-then extremely allergic-then my husband had to chose between me or the bees--it was close--but I'm still here-barely hanging onto first place!! Have a great weekend!!

  49. I loved your video - a good laugh to start my day! I think it is wonderful that you have gone after your dreams and succeeded. Now you must get a goat. Even though we live in the country, I have not been able to convince my husband we need other animals besides the chickens. He's such a poop!

  52. Every time you post a video I feel like I'm watching Saturday Night Live... only you are way more funny than anything they could do. Check out the goat cam on the Fabuous Beekman Boys website to get your goat fix http://planetgreen.discovery.com/tv/the-fabulous-beekman-boys/watch-the-beekman-farm-goat-cam.html
... and if you haven't watched the show, you must. Farmer John and his goats are precious. And Polka Spot the Llama is a something else. Maybe you should do a coop cam on your blog!

  63. Jayme,
I know that you have moved on to honey, but I am still baking bread! I have to tell you that I was baking your bread every day! We went to the beach for my son's spring break and I taught he and his roommate (who was visiting) how to bake bread, too. They loved it. Unfortunately, I have been on a gluten-free diet for two weeks (may have a wheat allergy), so I am still baking your bread and giving it away. I am addicted! I wanted you to know that I am currently (right now, as a matter of fact), testing a gluten-free version of your recipe and method. I will let you know how it turns out.

  64. did you know i've become a chicken activist? there are very strict, cumbersome regulations regaurding foul here in the mile high. so i've taken to signing petitions and writing letters to mayors fighting for the right to keep the little cluckers in me yard. bees are still out of the picture in my homesteading dream though...i'm just not ready to give my life for honey :(

    ReplyDelete
  65. I just giggle and giggled through your blooper video....looked like you were peering right into our house from your kitchen. Too funny! And "I just sucked my snot"...hysterical! Love real people, saying real things. :-D

  66. I love your blooper video, especially when you both came and stared at me sitting here at my computer... hey, goats are fun, they really are. They can be pets. Virtually no work with a goat--were you going to milk them or what? We had two goats when I was a kid, they would follow me and my brothers all over our 2 acres.

  67. Love you and your blog so much! You make me feel right at home!! I just started beekeeping as well. Can't wait til the fall to collect some honey perhaps!

  68. LOVED the video. You're great! Thanks for the little pump up talk at the end there. Our goal is to be out of debt in 5 years and to move back to our little farm and live the good life! Somedays it seems so far away, but I know it'll come!

  69. I just found your blog and I love you! When I had first moved to the country myself, I bought books on beekeeping and gardening! We're well on our way to building our small farm and I dream of it daily! Your such and inspiration! Thank You!
