Freaky Friday

It was just a weird day. A weird week really. Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and now the Oxyclean man. Friday morning a family of five were killed at the interstate exit closest to my house. They were on their way to Florida for a vacation. They were about 10 minutes from home, and they were all killed instantly. A little two year old girl that had been missing a few towns over was found. It wasn't good. I was traumatized at the gynecologist. I'll spare you the sordid details, but I did wake up having nightmares that night about it all. I cried so hard in the office and couldn't even go to work that day! Ok ok...I'll give you the details. I know ya'll are used to every gruesome detail, with photos on this blog. There will be no photos of this!! I needed an endometrial biopsy, and went for it. I'd had this before, it wasn't too big of a deal. This time, it WAS a big deal. She couldn't get in my uterus. Ok..that's enough of that.

The bright spot in my day. Jesse and Rhonda. They came over for a long overdue dinner. We'd scheduled a couple of dinners, but always had to cancel. One winter night, I had the food all made and ready, and they had to cancel due to inclement weather. You guys REALLY missed a good meal that night!

It was a really laid back dinner. I'm finally getting better about having company without turning into a lunatic. I made the crust.....

Jesse peeled the garlic....lots and lots of garlic......

Scratch and sniff......

Glenco picked the strawberries for the salad.....

And I let my meal get cold trying to get a picture without using a flash. I gave up and used the flash, so now it looks not so good....

Are you wondering what Rhonda did? The dishes of course! Thanks girl.

Ohhhh...but it WAS good. It was a BBQ Chicken Pizza with Garlic and Cilantro. You won't believe how easy it is to make. Start with your favorite pizza crust, be it Boboli, or homemade. Brush on some BBQ sauce. NOT a lot. Just a thin coat. Sprinkle liberally with chopped fresh cilantro. In a pan, put a little olive oil and 10 cloves of garlic. Saute them til the garlic is a bit tender, not browned. Add to that about 2 or 3 chicken breasts, chopped up in little pieces, and cook until the chicken is ALMOST done. Sprinkle the chicken and garlic on the prepared crusts. Top with as much shredded mozzarella as you desire. Bake until golden brown. Yum-o.

We laughed alot that night. We talked alot about raising kids, and our families. It was a good ending to a weird week. I can't shake that little girl being found the way she was. I can't shake the thought of a family of five, on the way to Florida killed in an instant. I can't. It makes no sense. Life is so fleeting and frail It's time like this when the garden is my refuge. When friends my fortress. Laughter healed my soul that night (and my uterus). I'm so blessed, so thankful. God help us to realize that each day here could be our last. Look up, look around. Breathe.

Oh look, the daises bloomed.

  1. Jayme, you are so right. Death doesn't make appointments...he just comes in whatever fashion so we must be ready at all times.
I heard that dinner was divine but who could expect anything less from you.
That biopsy needs to be done at the hospital, not someone's office. Been there, done that. YIKES!!
I really would like to come hold Helen. I hear my favorite girl wouldn't hold her. Shame on her!
Thanks for the update...I can go on with a new week now. :)

  2. Jayme, I know why that pizza tasted so good, did you see those beautifully manicured fingers making the pizza dough !! The pizza really did look fantastic and I am sure tasted even better. It always is a plus to have so many sous chefs helping out.
I am so sorry for the losses of the week, it surely makes you appreciate what you have around you. Your family, your friends, your garden and you home, the list can go on and on.
Enjoy life as you do. Enjoy your week and I will be back looking for more of your great blogging stories of life as it is.

  6. Jayme, that was so sad about the family on the interstate. my son passed the wreckage on his way to work and called me about it and said it was terrible and then to hear about the little girl was even worse. I kept hoping they would find her alive.

So sorry to hear what happened at the doc's offie. I have had that done in the past and I think they need to do it in the hospital on an outpatient basis. Hope you are feeling better.

Hope you got to enjoy Saturday and the Garden Walk.

  8. Thanks for all of your nice comments and concerns. I've decided to get a 'second opinion' on the biopsy. I mean, I just had one a year and a half ago. I've stopped having nightmares about it!
