Strawberry Thingie Recipe

Summer in a cup. A great dessert for a backyard bbq. I like these cause you don't need a plate to eat them, you just grab and go, and grab and go, and grab....and grab...

This is what you'll need. Wonton wrappers, cream cheese, strawberries (these are old pics before my strawberries were ripe), cinnamon, brown sugar and honey.

Spread all the wonton wrappers out in a single layer, and brush with melted butter.

Now, I don't measure things on this recipe...I'm sorry. I put about a cup of brown sugar and two teaspoons of cinnamon together, and mixed it good, and then sprinkled it evenly over the wrappers.

Push them down in a cupcake tin like that. (look up :-) Bake them at 350 til they are brown and set. Some will inevitably fall in on themselves. Happens to the best of us.

Whip up your softened cream cheese and enough honey for your taste and spoon it in the cooled shells.

You'll want to fan out your strawberries for dramatic effect! Cut them almost all the way through, but not quite, then smoosh with your fingers.

Put them in the cups, and garnish with a little mint if you have it.

Voila!

You've just made 'Strawberry Thingies!'

  2. I am going to make them on Saturday to have for dessert after supper. Mark is going to grill hamburgers, he just doesn't know it yet!

It's scuppernon(g) jelly. They are like grapes and they can grow wild here in the South. We grow them along with our grapes and muscadines (like grapes, but bigger and firmer.) They make a delicious jelly that is not too sweet and has just a little tartness to it. Ours will not be ready to pick until about mid-July so I'll let you know when the jelly is ready and we can swap addresses!
